Driver CPC Training – The Benefits

Training, or continued professional development (CPD), is an integral part of every business and a vital aspect of every job role. It improves awareness, increases skillset, and allows companies to ensure their employees are developing & improving their knowledge and understanding. Whilst you may think you have a in-depth understanding of your job role, the importance of health & safety and workplace policies, with time people can often become complacent.

The legal system and the laws it produces must change alongside the progression of the world and respond to social, economic, moral & political change, in order for it to be effective. However, can you confidently say you are up to date with the laws surrounding your job role and industry? This is one of the many reasons there is an increased need for CPD and training within the workplace.

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) was introduced in 2014 to maintain high standards of professional driving and improve road safety. Whilst the training is a legal requirement to be a professional driver – and drivers often vocalise their dislike of being required to attend the course -, there are several advantages of the training. We all understand that the qualification is a must to ensure you are road legal when driving professionally, so why not make the most of it and get what you need out of the training? Listen to your instructor, get involved in discussion, ask questions (relevant ones! even if they are slightly off the session topic) – and most of all, don’t fall asleep! You might even learn something new, after all, everyone is in the same industry, turning up for the same reason and may have had very different experiences to you.

Attending DCPC training is for your safety as well as that of others, assisting you to do your part to reduce those most at risk on the road. Ultimately it is in your best interest to ensure you are a safe and competent driver to help reduce the risk of road-related accidents. There is also a longer lasting, worldwide impact as a result of DCPC. Some courses provide drivers with an understanding of fuel utilisation to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution, encouraging people to become more environmentally friendly. After all, we all need to consider the implications our actions have on Earth!
